Assignments include the development and maintenance of processes that support Nursing Education within the Division of Nursing which support evidence-based nursing practice and meet the qualifications of state, federal and regulatory agencies. The Manager for Nursing Education maintains professional competencies by attending educational programs and participating in professional organizations. Responsible in collaboration with the Director of Nursing Research, Education, and Quality for the daily department operations and supervision of staff. Conducts annual Performance Appraisals of Department Staff in conjunction with the Director.Contributes to the planning and implementation of new programs and marketing approaches for the Division of Nursing and/or institution.Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the department budget.Develops and maintains policies and procedures for Departmental functions.Identifies and recommends changes needed in existing policies and procedures, referring to appropriate person.Identifies need for investigation and data collection in areas relevant to education.Assesses trend in mandatory agency accreditation regulations for the educational programs.Identifies current trends in education and practice. Ensures that curriculum of educational programs incorporates updated details based on current trends.Teaches select classes/courses offered by the Department.Reviews and approves standard curriculum for divisional education.Develops creative and innovative teaching methodologies.Elicits input from clinical departments regarding education needs.Collaborates with other departments for in-services on products/equipment.Coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of orientation programs, mandatory education, in-service education, and staff development in accordance with the established policies, standards of practice, and procedures.Assumes responsibility in assisting with special projects as warranted.Assists with the professional development for instructors and nursing education staff.Responsible for the recruitment, selection and orientation of employees in assigned areas. Provides work direction assigns and/or schedules work, conducts on-the-job training, answers job related questions. Monitors performance and adherence to attendance policies. Prepares performance evaluations and recommends appropriate personnel actions for staff, relative to promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action up to and including termination. Assists in the interpretation, development and implementation of Hospital personnel and departmental policies and procedures.Ensures that all educational programs meet or exceeds the Joint Commission, State, Federal, Regulatory and Reimbursement agencies.Collaborates with other departments and members of the Division of Nursing as indicated.Represents the Department at multidisciplinary meetings as indicated.Performs all duties inherent to managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures.Performs other job related duties as assigned.
