Director of Program Strategy in New York, NY

The Director of Program Strategy implements this Non Profits mission by defining and furthering the organization?s strategy, in collaboration with program offices, licensees, and partners. Most importantly, the Director leads strategic efforts to increase the quality and effectiveness of the program offices. The Director also works closely with the Chief of Field Operations to manage the domestic portfolio, including analyses of new and existing markets, and program performance.
The Director is responsible for developing a strategy compatible with the organization?s goals and ensuring that the organization is positioned to successfully implement the strategy. These responsibilities require that the Director regularly consult with senior leadership, board members, and staff members?across all functions?in order to guide planning phases of work, and later create action plans for relevant stakeholders.
In addition, the Director is responsible for identifying partnership opportunities that would supplement and enhance the organization?s programs.
The position reports to the Chief Field Officer.
Responsibilities
Strategy
Collaborate with staff as appropriate across functional areas, departments, and geographies.
Lead the design of a strategy that maps to the organizations goals and seek formal approval of the strategy on the part of the leadership.
Plan for implementation of the strategy, including analysis of required resources and capacity, and creation of individual and department-level action plans.
Coordinate implementation across functions.
Assess the impact of the strategy and make adjustments as necessary.
Partnerships
Identify opportunities to leverage partnerships in areas outside current core competencies.
Develop relationships with potential partners and draft partnership proposals.
Recommend partnerships to the leadership.
Coordinate the implementation of partnership agreements and evaluate their impact over time.
Portfolio Management
Set quantitative and qualitative criteria for analyzing program markets; evaluate new and existing markets.
Develop short-term and long-term portfolio goals and action plans.
Evaluate program office structure and propose changes that would increase organizational coherence and efficiency.
Build performance management guidelines and expectations designed to support the Chief Field Officer, including dashboards of key metrics and protocols for development and feedback.
Support the development of data-tracking systems designed to facilitate performance management.
Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree required; master?s degree preferred.
Minimum 4-5 years experience in consulting or in a strategic capacity at a business, nonprofit, or government institution.
Ability to design and implement a variety of multi-functional and dynamic projects.
Experience managing relationships with a diverse range of clients and partners, including senior-level managers.
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Strong written and oral communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
Substantial understanding of education policy issues.
Passion for urban education reform and entrepreneurship.
Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills.
